Sūrat Yūnus

Sūrah No. 10, Revealed in Makkah, 109 verses.

The Sūrah has been named after Prophet Yūnus (a) who is mentioned in verse 98.


Merits of reciting the Sūrah

Whoever recites Sūrat Yūnus once every two or three months, it will not be feared that he will be from the ignorant ones, and on the Day of Judgment he will be from the close ones [to Allah]. Imam Ja‘far al-Sādiq (a)

Note: Scholars emphasize that such a reward is for the one who recites and implements the teachings of the Sūrah in life.

Important Messages

1) Those who do not believe in the Hereafter are content with the pleasures of the world. (v. 7)

2) The Quran was not authored by the Prophet a and he could not change it according to the demands of the people. (v. 15)

3) On the Day of Judgment, the false gods will disassociate from those who worshipped them. (v. 28)

4) The challenge of the Quran was to bring a Sūrah like it, if they thought it was

fabricated. (v. 38)

5) Everyone is responsible only for their own deeds. (verse 41)

6) Real deafness and blindness have to do with the inner senses. (vv. 42-43)

7) Fear of Fir‘awn stopped people from believing in Prophet Mūsā (a). (verse 83)
