ALI 692: Islamic Laws Related to the Workplace

In an increasingly diverse and multicultural work environment, practicing Muslims often encounter situations that require careful adherence to Islamic legal principles. This module serves as a comprehensive refresher on key jurisprudential (Fiqh) rulings relevant to the modern workplace, based on the edicts of Ayatullah Syed Ali al-Husaini al-Sistani (dz).

Some of the areas that will be touched upon include:

Purification (Ṭahārah): Guidelines on purifying clothes, utensils, and other objects using various types of water, especially when they come into contact with impurities in a work setting.

Prayer (ṣalāḥ): Instructions on praying under challenging circumstances, including when one may pray with impure clothing as well as items upon which it is permissible to prostrate.

Fiscal Matters: Examination of financial obligations such as the application of Khums on pensions, ethical considerations in tax matters, and the permissibility of various banking practices.

Dietary Rules: Clarification on what types of food are permissible to consume, particularly when offered by non-Muslim colleagues.

Gender Interaction and Dress Code: Insight into the rulings concerning interactions with the opposite gender, including appropriate dress and Hijab requirements.

This module is designed as a practical guide for Muslims seeking to align their workplace conduct with their religious obligations, offering clarity on how to maintain their faith while engaging in everyday professional activities.
